Sometimes life presents us with a pretty big decision: Is this something we need to tear down, raise up, or simply fix up?
I was thinking about that while putting together a little video of a house being torn down, rebuilt, and renovated. It got me wondering…
What if we looked at ourselves the same way?
Are we a total tear-down? Have we allowed so much hurt, anger, disappointment, or bitterness to accumulate that something needs to come down before anything new can be built?
Are we a raising? Maybe we’re ready for a fresh start. A new foundation. A different way of looking at the world. Sometimes we need to let go of what was so we can become what might be.
Or are we a fixer-upper? Perhaps we’re not nearly as broken as we think. We just have a few things that need attention. A little repair here. Some restoration there. Maybe a fresh coat of kindness, a little patience, and a whole lot of love.
Here’s the thing: Knowing the difference makes all the difference.
We can spend a lifetime trying to renovate something that really needs to be torn down. Or we can tear down something that simply needed a little care and attention.
And sometimes, the smartest thing we can do is stop pretending everything is fine and invite someone to help us with the repairs.
So, just a moment to ask yourself:
What in your life needs tearing down? What needs rebuilding? And what simply needs a little fixing?
Because we’re all a work in progress. And the good news is that as long as there’s life, there’s still room for renovation.
Today’s Caring Catalyst challenge: Don’t spend all your time fixing the outside of the house while ignoring what’s happening inside. Take an honest look at your own foundation. Then do one thing today that makes you a little more whole, a little more hopeful, and a little more loving.
