WHEN FIXING IT IS JUST BEING THERE

Sometimes, You Can’t Fix It. You Can Just Be There.

There are times in life when things fall apart.

When someone we love is hurting. When disappointment takes the wind out of our sails. When life doesn’t turn out the way we imagined. When the tears come, but the words don’t.

And what do we instinctively want to do?

FIX IT.

We offer advice. We search for answers. We try to find the right words, the right solution, the right thing to make everything better.

But sometimes, there is no quick fix.

That’s what makes Coldplay’s song “Fix You,”especially in the beautiful rendition by Straight No Chaser, so powerful.

It reminds us that when someone is struggling, they may not need us to repair their circumstances. They may simply need someone willing to walk alongside them through the darkness.

Someone who listens without interrupting.
Someone who cares without judging.
Someone who stays when leaving would be easier.

Here’s something worth remembering:

We don’t always have to fix someone’s brokenness to help them find a little healing.

Sometimes a hug does more than a hundred words. Sometimes listening is more powerful than advice. Sometimes just showing up is the greatest act of love we can offer.

And perhaps that’s a lesson we all need on this Monday morning.

The next time someone shares their struggles with you, resist the urge to immediately reach for your toolbox.

Put down the wrench. (Trust me, not everything needs one!)

Instead, offer your presence. Your patience. Your compassion.

You may not be able to fix what’s broken in their world, but you might just help them discover they’re not facing it alone.

YOUR MONDAY CARING CATALYST CHALLENGE:

Think of someone who might be carrying something heavy today. Reach out. Make the call. Send the message. Sit with them. Don’t worry about having the perfect words.

Just remind them, in whatever way you can:

You don’t have to go through this alone.

Because sometimes the most healing thing we can do for another human being isn’t to fix them.

It’s to love them where they are.

Put down the toolbox. Sometimes showing up is the greatest gift we can give and the least expensive, less evasive, most powerful intervention you can offer and they can receive.
