THE ART OF RISING

Alan Alda has spent a lifetime making us laugh, think, and sometimes cry. Now, as he faces Parkinson’s disease, he’s teaching us something even more important: how to keep living when life doesn’t go according to plan.

Parkinson’s may change the way he moves, but it doesn’t have to define the way he lives.

And isn’t that a lesson for all of us?

We all have something we’re fighting. A diagnosis. A disappointment. A loss. A door that has closed when we were hoping it would open.

We may not get to choose what life hands us, but we still have a say in how we respond.

Courage isn’t always about conquering the thing that stands in our way. Sometimes, courage is simply refusing to let it take away our joy, our purpose, or our willingness to show up for another day.

This Monday, remember: You don’t have to be untouched by life to be an inspiration. You just have to keep finding ways to live it. . . .
