I AM…I SAID
Neil Diamond once said that “I Am… I Said” was the hardest song he ever wrote—and perhaps the most personal.
It isn’t really a song about Los Angeles or New York.
It’s about something much more human: the longing to be heard.
There are moments when we can be surrounded by people and still feel completely alone. We talk. We explain. We try to make sense of what is happening inside us. And sometimes it feels as though we’re speaking into an empty room.
Perhaps that’s why Diamond’s words have lasted for more than fifty years.
Because somewhere inside most of us is the simple cry:
“I am here. I matter. Will somebody hear me?”
I am tired.
I am hopeful.
I am hurting.
I am grateful.
I am still becoming.
Maybe the Caring Catalyst this Monday isn’t about fixing anything.
Maybe it’s simply being honest enough to notice where we are—and compassionate enough to meet someone else where they happen to BE. . . .
Be present.
Someone may need you in their most sacred THERE
And maybe that’s one of the most important gifts we can give another person—not advice, not an answer, not a solution.
Just our presence.
“I’m listening. I hear you. And you matter to me.”
That’s CARING
And sometimes, that’s enough to help someone find their way home and in doing so, finding the sacred place of HOME in yourself. . . .
