THE PRICE TAG
On the Eve of our Nation’s 250th Birthday,
this message from Paul Harvey gives us a reason to
P A U S E
and not only
COUNT
the cost of Freedom
but how it actually got
P A I D
Freedom isn’t free.
Someone paid for it.
When the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence put their names on that document, they knew exactly what was at stake. If the Revolution failed, they could lose everything—including their lives.
Yet they signed anyway.
Years later, Paul Harvey reminded us that many of them did lose everything. Some lost their homes. Some lost their fortunes. Some lost children. Some died from the hardships of war. They pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor—and many paid that price.
Which makes me wonder…
Why do we so often think that the things that matter most come without a cost?
Love costs.
Forgiveness costs.
Compassion costs.
Being a Caring Catalyst costs.
It costs time when we’re busy.
Patience when we’re frustrated.
Generosity when we’d rather hold on.
The willingness to show up when it would be easier not to.
This weekend, while the fireworks light up the sky, maybe take just a moment to remember that every freedom we celebrate was purchased by someone else’s sacrifice.
Then ask yourself one more question:
What price am I willing to pay so that someone else can experience a little more hope, encouragement, kindness, or freedom?
They paid theirs.
Will we pay ours?
Just a moment…
Think about it.
