LABOR DAY IS NO JOKE
It’s Labor Day.
For some of us, that means a day off.
For others, it’s just another Monday.
And maybe that’s the point.
Because while we celebrate labor, perhaps we should also pause long enough to notice the people behind the labor.
The person who gets up before sunrise to make sure our coffee is ready.
The nurse who works while the rest of us gather with family.
The cashier who smiles even though they’ve been on their feet for eight hours.
The teacher preparing for another year.
The caregiver who never really gets a day off.
The construction worker, farmer, truck driver, custodian, waitress, mechanic, firefighter—and a thousand others whose names we may never know but whose work touches our lives every day.
We tend to notice what people do.
Labor Day gives us an opportunity to notice who they are.
And maybe that is one of the simplest ways we can become a Caring Catalyst.
Say thank you.
Look someone in the eye.
Ask their name.
Notice their effort.
Tell them their work matters.
Because sometimes people don’t need another compliment about how hard they work.
They simply need someone to remind them:
“I see you.
I appreciate you.
And what you do matters.”
So today, enjoy the day.
Rest if you can.
Celebrate if you can.
But somewhere along the way, notice somebody whose work usually goes unnoticed.
You might be surprised how much a few words of appreciation can change someone’s day.
And isn’t that what being a Caring Catalyst is all about?
Making someone’s world a little better simply because we were there.
Happy Labor Day.
Now go notice somebody.
